Semi Finals
Report:
Well today saw another windy dusty
morning clear to a windy not so dusty afternoon! A day
not conducive to great tennis however some hard
fought tennis was played sometimes the wind won and
other times sheer skill and determination came through!
A great number of players today took the time to
acknowledge the fact the competition had been a great
addition to the M.L.T.C. calendar and how much they had
enjoyed playing the format so we will definitely do a
repeat next year! Thanks to all the people who did make
the effort to speak to members of the committee and tell
us we did good! We do try!!
Division 1
Team 4
Julia Nick and Swannie WON 3 sets 25 against Team
6 - Groomy Dean and Kirstens 3 sets 23 games -
Another close encounter! Team 1 Haesey Bob D and Edwina
played Team 5 Mike Des and Jules they were 2 sets
all and 18 games to 19 games when Jules back gave way
and the rest they say is history or misery!
Finals will be
10/10/09 Team 4 V Team 1.
Division
2
Team 6
Ray K Peter R and Sandra WON 4 sets 31 against
Team 4 Col H Bill J and Annette 2 sets 21 games.
Sandra a 4 set winner here! Team 7 Ray D Paul and
Natalie WON 4 sets 28 against Team 2 Mark F Bob
H and Judy 2 sets 24 games. Again only four games
in it! Finals
will be 10/10/09 Team 6 V Team 7
The
finals will be played on courts 1 and 2 starting at 1pm.
At the conclusion of the final
there will be a Barbie- there will be social play and
club championship matches on the other 4 courts-------so
everyone please come and join in the club spirit.

Semi Finals Sep 26:
It's semi-final time at Manly Lawn Tennis Club. The
inaugural internal comp has proved to be a great
addition to the tennis calendar and it was a hard fought
battle between all teams to make the Semi's! None the
less four teams in each division are through and will
battle it out from 1pm on Saturday. So I hear you ask -
who exactly is in the semi's?? Final standings are
posted and congratulations to all teams! Our thanks go
to the Internal Comp Sub Committee who organised us the
event - Barb, Ray, Nick, Sandra & Bob For those not
involved in the semi's social courts will be available
from 1pm. Regards, Katie, Katie & the MLTC Committee

Latest Update Sep 15:
It's coming down to the wire as we enter this weekend's
last round of the internal comp and absolutely nothing
is decided yet! In Division One we have team 4 sitting
at the top of the table on 31 points, however this
weekend they have the bye leaving the door potentially
open for Team 5 to sneak into first place should they
get a big win! We also have two teams occupying joint
4th place only 2 points behind third placed Team number
1 so the last 2 spots in the semi's are up for grabs on
Saturday! In Division Two we have two teams in first
place, however again one of those teams has the bye
allowing team 7 to claim bragging rights with a
win...however Team 7 shouldn't start shouting too loud
just yet because nipping at their heels are two teams
occupying joint 3rd place only 2 points behind them.
Latest results have been posted. Katie & the MLTC

Latest Update Aug 30:
Another great weekend of tennis!! There were three
matches drawn 3 sets all 26 games all!! The other three
matches were 4 sets to 2 - with 2 / 5 / 7 games
respectively being the minimal difference. Think the
selectors have some pretty fine tuned teams here! We
have been very fortunate with some spectacular weather -
brilliant sunshine and don't forget its still winter!!
The classic move on Saturday - was Ray Dummett who
served one of his "high speed" bullets directly into a
low flying bird - who unfortunately slipped away to
birdy paradise - the force was too great! Its just great
to see and watch some 36 members each week active on the
social courts enjoying good standard tennis and mixing
around the bar afterwards creating a fabulous atmosphere
- well done Manly Lawn. Barb. |

Latest Update Aug 10:
What a super start to our internal
comp!! Glorious day, 5 of the six matches were 3 sets
all and 99% of the feedback was positive -and a great
day was had by all - thanks everyone for your support!!
Reminding all players that the 12 noon start for the
first two matches means be at the club and on court for
12 noon sharp START - 5 minute hit ups at first and
second sets only - tie breaks at 5 all now. Must keep
moving and get the games through as the social players
must get the court by 3pm at the latest!!
Changes to draw: Reminder:
team 3 catering week 2. Reminder: teams 1 and 2 that
they are now at 12 noon week 3. (with team 2 catering )
5 all tie breakers for all matches now. - if this
doesn't move the play through we might have to go to
short deuce - so keep it moving guys!!
The draw and points lists are
attached below; please find your own replacements if
you can't play!! Its not the committee's job!! The team
players from the bye match each week can be used as
substitutes for other matches - as long as the player
points are the same.
Thanks Ray and Barb

Internal Club Competition:
The Committee is excited to
announce an internal competition for its members instead
of the traditional Spring Badge (which is on offer if
you so desire). We think it will increase the
camaraderie and friendship within the club getting to
know your fellow member just a little bit better.
