Spring Badge 2008 Draws Available: 

NORTH V SOUTH (HEAD INVITATIONAL CHALLENGE) Aug 23:  At a recent meeting the MGCCA Executive resolved that for 2008 the title of this traditional event and its basis of selection should be changed. As a result, principally of the dissipation of White City teams to other clubs and the reduction in teams from other South of Harbour Clubs, there is a distinct imbalance in the number of North and South Teams. For this reason it was determined that for 2008 the event will be titled the HEAD INVITATIONAL CHALLENGE and that Teams will be selected from the strongest “AVERAGES” performers available from all grades, irrespective of whether they are based on North or South of the Harbour. 

The 2008 HEAD INVITATIONAL CHALLENGE will be held on Saturday 23rd August 2008 at Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre, Rod Laver Drive, Homebush Bay.  Each match will be held on a single court commencing at 12 noon. There will be 8 MEN’S MATCHES and 4 WOMEN’S MATCHES.  PLAYERS SELECTED WILL BE CONTACTED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO DETERMINE AVAILABILITY.  AFTERNOON TEA WILL BE CATERED FOR AND SPECTATORS WILL BE MOST WELCOME.

HEAD BADGE PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES:  AS CONFIRMED AT LAST YEAR’S NOVEMBER DELEGATES MEETING THE PRESENTATION OF HEAD BADGE TROPHIES WILL TAKE PLACE AT 5.15PM ON SATURDAY 23 AUGUST IN THE SOPTC FUNCTION ROOMS AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE HEAD INVITATIONAL CHALLENGE MATCHES.

ALL TROPHY WINNERS FOR SATURDAY AND THURSDAY COMPS ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND THE PRESENTATION. LIGHT REFRESHMENTS, TEA COFFEE AND SOFT DRINKS WILL BE PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE. A CASH BAR WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR ALCOHOL. THE PRESENTATION WILL TAKE APPROXIMATELY ONE HOUR.

Badge 2008 Final Rounds & Playoffs:

5th July – Round 14 (last round match).

12th July – No Badge – play suspended to encourage participation in Metropolitan Hardcourt Championships.

19th July – Badge play suspended due to World Youth Day closure of Harbour Bridge.

26th July – Semi Finals (1 v 4 and 2 v 3) and playoffs (5 v 8 and 6 v 7). Home team named first.

2nd August – Finals (Winner 2 v 3 versus Winner 1 v 4) and playoffs ( r/up of 1 v 4 versus r/up 2 v 3, winner 5 v 8 versus winner 6 v 7, r/up 6 v 7 versus r/up 5 v 8) Home team named first.

9th August – Grand Finals.

23rd August – North v South match and Cocktail Party Presentation of Autumn Badge Trophies at conclusion of N v S Match. Location to be confirmed.

6th September – Spring Badge commences.

Comments:
1. Eligibility for players competing in playoffs shall be the same as for players competing in Semi- Finals and Finals (i.e. 2 players who have played in not less than half of the preliminary round matches and 2 players who have played in at least 3 of such matches) Rule 26, 4th paragraph.

2. For Sections which contain a Bye, the team placed 5 will not play on 26th July. The team placed 5 will play the winner 6 v 7 on 2nd August.

3. The above is weather permitting, of course.

Badge 2008 Teams Selections:  MLTC Womens and Mens teams were ratified by our committee on February 2.  Secretary notes that the teams with proposed grading are to be submitted to the MGCCA.  Final grading may vary after the MGCCA Grading Committee meeting.   Click Womens Teams      Click Mens Teams

Drill Sessions:  Advanced Women's and Men's Invitational Drill Sessions start Saturday January 26. Courts 5-6, 12:00 - 2:30p. Numbers filled.

Badge 2008 Application Form: ALL members wishing to be considered for placement in a MLTC badge team MUST be fully financial and complete the attached form and return it to the club by closing date, last mail 25th January or to the club office by 26th January Australia Day. Click here for Application Form

Delegates Meeting Report 4th December:  The attached report provides a rundown from the delegates meeting this week and the results of delegates' voting thus determining what was decided for the 2008 badge calendar.  Main Badge Highlights:

1. There will be eight teams in a grade.

2. There will be two rounds.

3. There will be playoffs after the final round when the teams placed 1-4 will play the regular final series (plus the additional loser match) and the teams placed 5-8 will also have scheduled matches to determine final grade placings.

4. Start date- 15th March

5. No play Easter Sat – 22nd March

6. No play  26th April (Anzac day is day before- thus - long weekend)

7. No play  June 7th – long weekend

8. Round 14 -  5th July

9. No play 12th July – Metropolitan tournament – (mid Sat school holidays)

10. Final Series  19th July 26th July  Grand Final 2nd August if required.
